I have to say he lost a little shine for me in the last book with his jealousy and how he didn’t trust Cat enough to give her the benefit of the doubt. Cat’s character has really grown from the stubborn half-breed hell-bent on killing all vampires to a confident, empathetic vampire wife.īones is still great. It makes for an interesting read as you never really know what is coming. I love the twist that Frost gives her character (sorry, vague I know, but trying to avoid too many spoilers).
Her naivety is starting to wear off finally, and we get to see her use her new skills as a vampire. I really missed Cat! She’s a fun character. With masterless vampires disappearing, it’s up to Cat and Bones to stop him before war becomes reality. During this time, Apollyon has stepped up his planning to take down Cat and the vampire race, inciting ghouls to action. This Side of the Grave by Jeaniene Frost is the 5th book in the Night Huntress series and picks up nearly a year after the events with Gregor.
It’s not that I didn’t enjoy Spade’s and Mencheres’s books, but I missed the banter and humor that we get with Cat and Bones. I’m so happy to be back with Cat and Bones for this installment. But the price of her assistance may prove more treacherous than even the threat of a supernatural war-to say nothing of the repercussions Cat never imagined. Now Cat and Bones are forced to seek help from a dangerous “ally”-the ghoul queen of New Orleans herself. A zealot is inciting tensions between the vampires and ghouls, and if these two powerful groups clash, innocent mortals could become collateral damage.
